Land Rover Discovery 1 Camel Trophy Edition TVR Griffith 5.0l Swap
Land Rover Discovery 1 Camel Trophy Edition TVR Griffith 5.0l Swap
Back when the the Camel Trophy was in the peak of its popularity, Land Rover decided to honor the Discovery 1 by creating 500 special edition models that replicated iconic styling of a CT truck. These were primarily made for the Japanese market, with some staying in the UK. The special edition trucks were finished in the Camel Trophy “Sand Glow Yellow” from the factory, and were offered in a 300tdi or a 3.5l V8. Each truck was spec’d as the owner liked, some with roof racks, bull bars, etc. All had the staple early style interior with the tan cloth, manual seats (the most fail proof, simple and desirable interior). This was the only time Land Rover offered any vehicle that was CT related to the general public.
This particular Discovery is essentially the Land Rover holy grail, mixed in with some British mad scientist. With only 66k original miles.
At some point in this rigs life in Japan, its owner decided to ditch the sluggish factory power plant and shove a 5.0 liter, 340hp V8 from a TVR Griffith. This motor is actually based off of the Rover v8, but heavily modified by TVR and made to be an absolute unit. Pair this with a 5 speed manual transmission, a locking center differential, a full exhaust, and you get a rare, rowdy and absolutely insane Land Rover. This is the equivalent of swapping a Coyote 5.0 into an older Bronco.
Mechanically this truck sounds amazing, we actually have a video on hand for anyone interested. Cosmetically, it has held up beautifully with no rust or corrosion to be found. We were informed by the prior owner that every button works, AC, windows, radio, winch etc. It looks as though it has a two battery setup to support the lights and winch. We’re unsure which suspension setup its running, we do know this is a 2” lift. Wolf wheels and BFG AT’s have been fitted. The 5.0l power plant does sport a very classy carbon fiber intake from ACT Performance out of the UK.
All in all, this is as cool as it gets for a Disco, before you get into true Camel Trophy trek vehicles. We are beyond thrilled to bring this one stateside.
Expect pricing to be around $17-20,000 with an Oregon title in the buyers name.
