1987 BMW M535i

1987 BMW M535i

$18,000.00

Well, this is bittersweet. For many, many years, a white M535i was the poster child for our brand, a goal of ours to import as a shop/personal vehicle. The car that started it all for us many years back is a white e28 535i on matching wheels/suspension, so this car has a very secure spot in our hearts. Our goal with this company is to be constantly improving, which means next summers company car needs to be something different, something cooler, something better.

Writing this ad feels like talking about a best friend, this car has been a pleasure and a blast to own and we are so unbelievably excited for whoever ends up with the keys. I drive this car 6 days a week, on highways and backroads, rain or shine. The amount of respect the ol girl gets in insane, so be ready for a bit of attention. I would drive this car anywhere in the country right now if someone gave me the opportunity. It simply eats miles, sips gas, and cruises as long as you’d like. We drove this car nonstop from Portland Oregon to Monterey California, around town for a week and straight back in the middle of summer with no faults, only smiles and miles. It carried precious cargo on board, my wife and one of our dogs, all this way safely and lived to tell the tale. Parking next to F40’s, half a million dollar Porsches, and still demanding a crowd of attention. This little e28 is special.

This car is priced at our cost, which is around the going bottom end rate for any condition M535I anywhere in the world currently. These are gaining momentum value wise, and with wild tariffs and shipping costs, this can be a great deal for the right person. This car has 72,700 original miles on it and going up daily.

Exterior: The paint on this E28 is in great shape for its age, its patina’d very well over the years. There is only one spot of coarse paint on the rear quarter near the antenna, and is hardly noticeable. We just recently applied a 2 year ceramic coat after performing a light paint correction and polish. The original M Tech kit is in amazing shape, all around. No dents, dints, scratches or oddities. The side skirts are straight and lack any warping. When the car arrived with us, as it was a Japanese market car, it had a wacky US/Euro style H4 headlight setup. We quickly converted this over to a very clean German HELLA set and OEM grills to match. This car is one of the few E28’s spec’d with a glass sunroof, most were m535is. The body is clean, clear of any signs of prior damage and shines up beautifully. Underneath, jack points are very healthy with no rot, as are sills and general underbody. The lower trunk pockets do have some corrosion on one side, due to a failed trunk seal and water holding inside. This also led to the upper rim/lip of the trunk to corrode slightly. This does not show with the trunk closed nor does it affect use.

Interior: A common color combo for m535i was Alpine white over Blau cloth, this being one of those. The blue interior is in great shape, apart from a cracked dash. We have a custom cut Japanese “MoonEyes” dash mat that goes with the car. The front seats were swapped years back for a set of Recaro LS’s that are in original condition and great overall shape. The bolstering cloth is a bit fragile from being likely 30 years old, but wears very nicely. Center cloth inserts have zero rips or tears. Carpet is in great shape, this was a non smoker car its entire life. Back seats are the original M Technic cloth seats, also in nice shape. Cloth is tight, slightly faded but adds to the cars patina. Headliner is tight and in amazing shape. Dashboard cluster is also in great shape, everything working perfectly. All buttons on this car work, all electronics work, there are no duds. The radio is aftermarket with an aux plug that we use every day, rear speakers are aftermarket to match and make for a lovely experience audio wise. Heat is hot, and AC was cool prior to us removing the belt. It will likely need a recharge or conversion to R134a. Blowers blow very strong with no issues. All windows/sunroof work, albeit some are slower than others, but nonetheless still functional. There are no rattles or odd noises inside this car, cruising 85mph on the freeway is smooth and quiet. The cluster does look to have been opened up at some point, as the dials are red and a decorative M badge was stuck inside. We did confirm the odometer reading is correct. This E28 does have functional central locking and its original key.

Mechanical: This car drives well, very well. If you’re looking for a daily driver, a cruiser or a road trip car, look no further. We’ve wracked up many miles in a short time, as it demands to be driven and makes every journey special. It can also hold its own in the corners, being planted and predictable. When we received the car, we immediately did the following work; new front brakes, Bilstein B4 struts all around, top hats, fuel pressure regulator, VR1 oil change and a fuel treatment. This car sits on old school german “Merwedes” springs, a custom tuning brand hailing from western Europe. The original m30 runs amazingly well, no hiccups or oddities. It has loads of power, pulls strong, yet sips fuel. The automatic transmission shifts perfectly wether in Economy mode or Sport. You can also lock it into 1st ,2nd or 3rd gear as you like. No leaks, smoke, oil burning or concerns for the next owner. Now, this car does have a custom exhaust that we have yet to find a single piece of info on. It is a custom long tube header design, with cats and a muffler, likely from the early 90’s from a Japanese exhaust company called Fujitsubo, or “FGK Main Factory” as printed on the tips. The car also sits on unopened, original BBS RS’s, squared, with tires fitted back in August. We also recently performed its second oil change, running intervals of 3.5-4,000 miles and can proudly say it is burning very little to no oil.

This car is sold with a clean Oregon title in the buyers name.

We drove this car today, just recently prior to writing this, and received 3 smiles and thumbs up on our way in. This car has been an absolute pleasure to own, and we can’t wait for it to grace someone else with the same experience. If we cry a little, please don’t make fun of us. Heck, writing this may change our mind about selling….Thank you <3
